A few days ago, we set free fourteen Monarch butterflies. Audrey is teaching me how to raise them this year. I found at least 17 Monarch caterpillars and a bunch of eggs. Audrey is still a lot better finding them though.
I found a brown hooded owlet caterpillar. It was very pretty. I feed him food I found and then we discovered he overwinters underground. Momma did know if he overwintered under leaves or under dirt, so we added dirt and leaves to his cage.
We woke up one day to find that he was gone! So we thought he made his cocoon. We are not positive but we think he made it by the edge of his container under the dirt. We are waiting to see when he emerges now.
