Snowman Day and Fort

Today is World Snowman Day. We made a snowman and decorated it. It is a summer snowman because it wants summer and to play in it. The snowman decided he could not ride a bike because he does not have legs.

Then we also finished building a snow fort and Megan pretended to sleep in it. We also had a snow fight, we had lots of fun today.

Crossword Puzzle Day

Not only is today the shortest day of the year, it is also Crossword puzzle day!   Click here to see the Nativity puzzle and print it out. Have fun and please let me know how you did!

Visiting Santa

At the Goshen library we wrote Santa notes and I wrote asking for green snow and my walk and driveway shoveled. In a few days I got a note just saying Santa and his elves were having fun and that I was on the nice list.

A few Sundays ago, we went to get our Christmas tree. Then we went to see Santa. I asked again for green snow, and my driveway and walk shoveled. Santa asked if I wanted a shovel, but I told him that he could do it or his reindeer or elves could shovel it. Then Santa asked me what else I want, I said I wanted a fresh watermelon. Santa said he would try. Then the rest of us asked for snow and other things, especially baby alpacas. Then we went home, and decorated our new Christmas tree.

I know Santa is not real but it is fun seeing him and asking for snow.

First Snow

My first two snowmen this year.

Today it snowed for the first time this year. Megan and I made snowmen. The bigger one of mine was creeping up to the other one. Then I destroyed them with snowballs. Now they are melted. We had fun with our snowman.

My Chex mix

I made Chex mix again. We changed our recipes(one and two) and made the Chex mix even better!

  • 3 cups Corn Chex
  • 3 cups Crispixs
  • 2 cups white cheddar cheez-its
  • 2 cups oringanl cheez-its
  • 2 cups Wheat Chex
  • 3 cups Nacho Cheese Bugles
  • 2 1/3 cups Pretzel Sticks
  • 2 cups Garlic Bagel chips, broken in half
  • 1 1/2 stick Butter
  • 5 Tbl coconut oil
  • 3 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 10 dashes Tabasco Sauce
  • 5 cloves mashed garlic (we cooked it before hand)
  • 1 teaspoon of your favorite seasoned salt recipe*
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder

Put all the crunchy stuff in a big bowl and mix very well.

Melt the butter and coconut oil over low heat. Add the garlic and start browning the butter.

Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. We like it with less salt, so you might want to add more.

Put crunchy stuff on cookie sheet with sides and pour butter with seasonings over while stirring.

Bake at 250 degrees until mix is dry (about 1 hour and a half) Stir every so often.  Cool and store in an airtight container, and be sure to share (If you don’t, do not eat it all at once otherwise you will get a tummy ache)!

*We made it using; 2 Tb Salt, 1/2 tsp Paprika, 1/4 tsp Turmeric, 1/4 tsp Onion powder, 1/4 tsp Garlic powder. It makes about 3 or 4 baches of Chex mix

Density Layer Experiment

We made a density experiment were we put some different weighted liquids on top of each other and see what goes on what.

The first time we did it we put in; fake maple syrup, corn syrup, milk, soup, water and rubbing alcohol. The milk messed it up. We think it was too light because it was 2% milk. And we realized the fake maple syrup went over the corn syrup.

The next time we did it we took away the milk and put in the corn syrup first. Here are the colors in order:

  • Purple & Clear = Corn Syrup
  • Brown = Fake Maple Syrup
  • Green = Dish Soap. Blue = H²O
  • Yellow = Vegetable Oil
  • Pink = Rubbing Alcohol

After we layered the liquids we put in the objects. We put in a ping-pong ball, a cork, a die, a pencil, a popcorn kernel, a bead, a eraser, and a ring.

I thought it was neat to see how everything “floated”.
