Density Layer Experiment

We made a density experiment were we put some different weighted liquids on top of each other and see what goes on what.

The first time we did it we put in; fake maple syrup, corn syrup, milk, soup, water and rubbing alcohol. The milk messed it up. We think it was too light because it was 2% milk. And we realized the fake maple syrup went over the corn syrup.

The next time we did it we took away the milk and put in the corn syrup first. Here are the colors in order:

  • Purple & Clear = Corn Syrup
  • Brown = Fake Maple Syrup
  • Green = Dish Soap. Blue = H²O
  • Yellow = Vegetable Oil
  • Pink = Rubbing Alcohol

After we layered the liquids we put in the objects. We put in a ping-pong ball, a cork, a die, a pencil, a popcorn kernel, a bead, a eraser, and a ring.

I thought it was neat to see how everything “floated”.

First came the hansom. There was no one in the driver’s seat. On the roof — not sitting but standing on the roof — swaying with superb balance as it came at full speed round the corner with one wheel in the air — was Jadis the Queen of Queens and the Terror of Charn.

Rotten Tea, Two Ways

A few years ago I started making Russian tea but I called it rotten tea and the name stuck. I have three different versions of it. If you click here you can see my first recipe. Here are my other two;

Recipe Two:

  • 1 Cup Tang
  • 2 Cups old fashioned lemonade mix
  • 1/2 Cup instant tea without sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp nutmeg

Recipe Three:

  • 1 Cup Tang
  • 6 pkg True Lemon lemonade mix
  • 1/2 Cup instant tea without sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp allspice

To Make:

  1. Mix ingredients well.
  2. Store in airtight container.
  3. Use about 3 tsp mix with hot water for each cup
  4. Let it cool and drink!

Do you have any other variations?

What Book Have I Been Reading?

I have been reading a (‘preciousssss’) classic book that lots of people have read. I put the part I just read in LEGO form.

I will give you a point for each question answered about the book.

  1. What book am I reading?
  2. Who is it by?
  3. What part or chapter did I build?
  4. What are the characters names (1 point for each name plus one character has two names and you get 2 more points if you get the other one)?
  5. What happens when you put on the ring?
  6. And what is the riddle about the ring (+ 3 points)?
  7. What is Your favorite part of the book?

The other day Daddy, Mark, and I had a joke competition. Mark won but I got second place.

  • What is the difference between a fish and a piano?
  • Why did the snakes stay in the ark even though God said “Go forth and multiply”?
  • Who is a better boxer, a bean, or a bird?
  • How many jugglers does it take to change a light bulb?

I will post the answers tomorrow 🙂

If you have any jokes, I would love to try to guess them. Please add them to the comments 🙂  Thanks!

Baked Beans!

For Daddy’s birthday, I made baked beans. Ever since I learned how to make baked beans from Momma, it has been my specialty. My recipe is from Oma who got it from Aunt Judy. I experimented and tweaked it to my liking. Click HERE for Oma’s recipe. For my version you will need:

  • 1 Tablespoon Molasses
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Garlic Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 Large Onions Diced and Fryed
  1. Turn a crock pot on low
  2. Add all the ingredients together in the crock pot
  3. Add spices to taste
  4. Put the lid on the crock pot

Playing with Jonathan

For a few weeks we babysat our cousin Jonathan when Grandma and Grandpa went on vacation. At first he was not happy coming over, but soon he had LOTS of fun and liked seeing the butterflies and goats. He taught us that butterflies say “Ahrrrrr”. We also went to the dump and he saw and talked about the birds and the trucks. Then we went to the library, Jonathan sat and looked at the fish with Audrey.

Another day we were playing in the sprinkler, Jonathan was having lots of fun. He liked running under the sprinkler when it made arches that you can walk through. He also enjoyed it when we dumped water over his head.

Later we went to the park with him and played on the playground. He tried all the slides and climbed up a net-like latter. We went up the tower and Jonathan ran up and down the slope. He liked playing with bubbles, and when we left he was exhausted. I had fun being a babysitter in training.

Flopsy’s Notes: Chalk

Dear Mommy, I love you and miss you ∀ lot and hope you get home soon. It has been fun here but I want to see you.

I have been trying black raspberries, they are good if you pick them black! The red ones are disgusting.

Outside is nice but a little wet, but they will not let me out without a leash. ∀lso ∀udrey (The shift key and the a key together keeps doing weird things) keeps leaving without me. ∀nd also they scolded me when I ate Thor’s food before he ate it and I snapped at him. Even though he eats my food after I eat it.

We played with chalk. It was super fun! I drew a butterfly, and Thor drew a note for Auntie Joyce that said I love you on it. Mine was better 🙂 .

I love you

Love,

Flopsy

The Headless Horseman, The School Teacher, and the Covered Bridge.

I designed this LEGO set. My Ichabod Crane has not vanished yet, hopefully he never does. But I did add a head to the Headless Horseman.
