First Sledding of Season
Yesterday, there was enough snow to go sledding on the hills in the park. I sometimes had to be pushed. Once I fell over. And once Andrea tried a roll up sled. She fell off and the sled sledded down the hill. So Andrea had to get it. Soon the hill was mostly grass again.
Bird Cookies
I made some treats for the birds yesterday. I learned how to make them at Bonneyville. It was fun to make them. The birds like cookies. When I hung the first ones up, the birds did not come for a month or so. Then the birds started to devouring it. They ate it all in three mornings!
Now that they know the cookies are here, they are coming already. We saw three birds enjoying them this afternoon.
Bird’s Oatmeal treats
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup lard or bacon grease
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 cup wild birdseed
- 2 eggs, including shells
- 2 Tbl milk
- 1 cup rolled oats
Beat together lard and sugar; add eggs (without shells) and milk and beat well. Add flour and baking powder, beating until well blended. Crush egg shells into small pieces and stir in along with 3/4 cup birdseed and oats. Form into inch balls and roll in extra birdseed. Attach large paper clip as a hanger if desired. Bake on cookie sheet at 375 for 10-12 minutes. Cool before hanging for birds.
Please let me know if you make the cookies too!
Rabbits
For school I had to write a poem that has one word first, then two words, then three words, then four words and then one word. It was easy. Here is what I wrote. Momma gave me a huge smiley face for it.
Rabbit
Hops slowly
looking for food
Little by little hops
Goodbye
Rabbit
Got scared
Hops far and fast
Goodbye bunny rabbit
Goodbye
Cowboy Cookies Supreme
I asked Mom if I could make cookies. She said I could put any kind of chocolate chips in it.
So I made our favorite cowboy cookies even better!
2/3 Cups sugar
3/4 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
1 Cup softened butter
1 Cup soft white wheat flour
1 Cup almond flour
1 Teaspoon baking soda
1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
2 eggs
1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
2 Cups oatmeal
1 Cup unsweetened coconut
1 Cup raisins
1/4 cup each mini chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips
Cream together sugars and butter, add eggs.
Add remaining ingredients and stir well. It will be thick!
Roll into balls, roll in vanilla sugar and place on cookie sheet. Flatten with glass.
Bake 350 degrees F. for 15 minutes. Remove to cooling rack to cool.
Pickle Bug
We found this bug in the rocks in one of our raised gardens. We were about to put the first load of dirt in and we found this bug. It really isn’t a Pickle Bug, but I named it that because it is pickle green and it is long and skinny.
Do you know what it is really called? Momma said we could try to find out later. I will tell you if I find out.
