The Road Goes Ever On and On

The Road goes ever on and on

Down from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

And I must follow, if I can,

Pursuing it with eager feet,

Until it joins some larger way

Where many paths and errands meet.

And whither then? I cannot say.

The Journal of Mr. Roger Mallard, 11/3/19

11/3/19 Woke up today happy until I thought about breakfast, and when we went to get it I covered my eyes. I really did not want to see what was there. I got fruit in yogurt, and some hot cocoa with whipped cream and sprinkles.

Yay! We are in Florida! We stopped at the visitor’s center and took lots of pictures.

I looked to see how long we had left. We should be there this evening.

I got a picture by the “Florida Welcomes You” sign, and one by the dolphin. I saw shark teeth and a space suit and I tried orange juice and grapefruit juice.

We got to the Everglades at about 5:30. We are setting up our tents now. I cannot help much because I am a little light.

The Journal of Mr. Roger Mallard, 10/3/19

10/3/19 Dear journal, today when I woke up I went outside. There was flowering daffodils and it was warm.

Around ten we went to a brunch. I lost my appetite again! I mean really, what did us birds do wrong? We went to a Ethiopian church service, it was a good service. Then we hit the road.

We saw Spanish Moss. I read it is a flowering plant that lives on trees, but I don’t really believe it. The true story is this: The Spanish used to own Florida and some of the area around it. One day they captured a big super hairy monster and released it to Florida. It went around Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina hiding in trees and leaving fur all over the place. You can’t believe all that you read.

It was quite foggy for awhile. We drove for a few hours then stopped in Adairsville, Georgia, got some ice cream, and stopped for bed. There were more peppermints almost as big as me, and I saw my first palm tree; it did not look like hands.

It was a tiring day.

The Journal of Mr. Roger Mallard, 9/3/19

9/3/19 Good morning journal, I woke up today feeling ready to hit the road… after breakfast. Then we went to go get something to eat. I lost my appetite as soon as I saw the hard boiled eggs.

Today we finished going through Indiana, and we went through Kentucky and Tennessee. When we got into Georgia I was amazed, there was green grass and trees with leaves! We stopped at Auntie Michelle’s house and saw our cousins. We had lots of fun, there was an international buffet with Indian and Ethiopian food, it was good. Then we tried different drinks, my favorite drinks were the pink one on the far left and the yellow one second to right. When we got back to our cousins house it was late. I fell asleep fast, I had lots of fun today.

For a bit, Mr. Roger Mallard will give us the privilege of letting us see his journal notes on his way to Florida

8/3/19 Today we have been getting ready to leave, we are going to Florida! I packed sunglasses and a surfboard, I also brought some duckweed for dinner. I don’t think I need anything else.

Now we are leaving! I am so excited I can hardly sit still. I wanted to eat right away but decided not to. I read instead one of my favorite books Agent SNORE: Mission 120418: Take Me Out of the Ball Game by Thor S McGuire. Thor let me borrow it, but he said he was reading Agent SNORE: Mission 121818-121918, Cats Game at Grandma’s house and would let me read it when I came home.

We are stopping for dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant in Indianapolis. I stayed in the car to eat my duckweed but I heard what everyone got. They got Beef Sambussa, a meat filled pastry; Mango Juice; Ye-Kwanta Wot, dried beef jerky stewed in spicy sauce; Mincetabish, diced beef fried in a pan with ginger, onions, cardamom, and green peppers and then sauteed with sauce; Zitzil Tibs, strips of beef marinated in sauce seasoned with onions, green pepper and rosemary. They all came with Teff Bread, a thin spongy bread. They said it was good. Then they had a coffee ceremony with popcorn. They said it was the most relaxing coffee they ever had.

In Scottsville Indiana, we stopped for the night. The desk clerk gave us a free cookie, and there was some peppermints in our room. I was tired, so after a picture I went to bed.

Mr. Roger Mallard will share more later.

Snowman Day and Fort

Today is World Snowman Day. We made a snowman and decorated it. It is a summer snowman because it wants summer and to play in it. The snowman decided he could not ride a bike because he does not have legs.

Then we also finished building a snow fort and Megan pretended to sleep in it. We also had a snow fight, we had lots of fun today.

First Sledding of the Year

Today we went sledding for the first time of the year. It snowed some yesterday and we wanted to go sledding so we tried at Ox-Bow park. We went on the big hill and went down a few times, then we tried the smaller hill. That was a much better hill! We sledded more and Megan and I were able to go together too.

I hope it snows more so we can go sledding again soon.
